Absence Makes The Heart Go Flounder

“Some people are meant to be apart I think.”

I looked at my friend. He wouldn’t say things like that so easily. I asked him if he doesn’t find it difficult that he and his wife are not living together like most married folks do.

They have their own house but their careers are such that it keeps them separated most of the time. It’s a good thing that they don’t have kids yet, but I think the distance should be taking its toll on their relationships.

“It’s not like that,” he said. “Don’t get me wrong, I would love nothing better than to be with my wife all the time but we are not yet on that stage where one of us can actually give up each other’s careers just to be together.”

With all due respect to my friend, I certainly disagree with him there. Ok fine, so I may be naive but if two folks truly love each other (and I think they do, otherwise they wouldn’t be married) nothing should be in the way of them being together. I don’t know if such an arrangement will be acceptable for me.

I guess it’s ok or even ideal if both are still going out as sweethearts but to be actually married and living like that? I don’t know.
