Selling My Soul To The Devil (I just hope the sumbitch is not as cheap as I think he is)

Well not really. Gladita, that prolific blogger (two dotcoms running at the same time? woot!) from the more lambing side of this country (can’t beat the ilonggas when they’re making lambing, man) reminded me in my shoutbox that I was or used to be a, errr, purist. Purist in the sense that I once declared never to let other people dictate what I should or should not write in my blog (see post here). This usually is the case when you start writing sponsored posts.

I actually took that into consideration when I decided to include some ads in this site a coupla weeks ago. Before I hit the save button that would display these newfangled contraptions (hifalutin words for ya), I asked myself if I’m really selling out, and am I eating my words now? In a sense, yes and no. Yes, I’m sort of selling out by allowing my pure and innocent blog (right) to be tainted by money, it being the root of all evil. And no because, in my declaration, I said;

Why don’t I join myself and make a travesty out of all the link texts that these sites [sic] would provide me? God knows I can make a mess out of anything I do. Text links? Gad I can only imagine the things I can do.

But I won’t. :)

I already got enough people telling me what I can or cannot do. I won’t have other cyberfolks telling me what to include in my entries, however mediocre these entries may be.

Technically speaking, I was only prohibiting myself from indulging in sponsored posts. Ads are still fair game. Nyahahaha. With this in mind, I hit the save button, turned off my computer and hit the sack dreaming of the million bucks that I would generate from all the ads that I will be including in this blog.

I woke up the following morning and checked how much I earned overnight. As expected, my ad monitor showed squat, zilch, squirt, nada, bopkis, awanin. I knew that devil was a sneaky little bastard.

    My Adsense generated for me a measly USD4.15 after three months of rabid blogging. But I still retain my Adsense on my blog. Who knows one day, I’ll just be surprised to find out that finally I climbed to USD100. That’s the spirit.Well, let me wait for seven years.

    I’m starting to have bad dreams now. Two dot coms? Darn! I’m bound to hit bankruptcy. But then again, I kinda like blogging and like Abaniko over there, I’m willing to wait. Hehehe…Don’t worry fence, I’ll click every ad I see on your blog.

    lol, man. :) don’t worry, like what abaniko said, who knows… :) i used to put up 1 in my sidebar and got rid of it because something was up with google, not sure what happened… our writing teachers in school kind of discouraged ads on personal blogs, esp. the sponsored posts. this entry reminded me lang of what 1 teacher said. :)

  4. Fence says:

    @abaniko, glad to hear i’m not the only one. my only problem is, if and when my ad earnings reach $100, it may even be enough to buy me a bar of soap! :D

  5. Fence says:

    glads, bankruptcy? nah, not gonna happen. not if may ara pa ginapiko kag ginapala. :) blog on!

  6. Fence says:

    acey, your teachers are right. try to hold on to your soul as much as you can. :) some of us are only too willing to pawn ours for kicks. hehehe.

    I posted in my blog, why I dont go sponsored postings.pls copy paste na lang:http://francescainfrance.blogspot.com/2007/08/blogging-with-business.htmlWaay ako panahon mag puyat at makiki beat the time ng opps, haha.besides, butler stories is still my passion.Hihi!Bigay na lang sa iba, pero oist, balato if nakajackpot kayo ha?

  8. Fence says:

    Francesca, your reasons are very much on the spot. It would be very awkward for you to share butler stories and then talk about ecommerce software in one of your post. :D although some are very good at tailoring their sponsored post to still coincide with their usual content. :)
