I’m not sure if this is just a hoax but please God, let this be true. If the blogosphere buzz is to be believed, THE Eraserheads will be holding a one night only reunion concert at the CCP open grounds on August 30, 2008.

The event, according to the grapevine, is reportedly sponsored by Marlboro and get this, tickets are for free! The only thing you need to do is log on to their website and register(I already have). The tickets can then be downloaded in early August. Registration however is on going.

The only hassle with the registration process is that you have to upload/fax an ID to confirm that you are above the smoking age limit. This makes me a bit apprehensive. Seems like Marlboro is collecting an awful lot of information, although it may be understandable taking into consideration the government’s law on smoking.

Still, this is Eraserheads the band that I defer to when I was then a lovesick puppy with images of the world conspiring against me. This is the band that inspired a whole generation of Pinoy rockers. This is the only band that I scraped enough money to watch their back-to-back concert with Yano at the Abellana Stadium in Cebu.

That concert was one of my fondest memories. Agaw-agimat with their barefoot singer opened for the Heads along with another Eddie Vedder/ Pearl Jam wannabe band. I almost died just getting inside the venue. People were pushing and pushing prompting one crazy guy to shout “Stop humping me, I’m a man!”.

I can still remember a classmate who had to hold on to her tube top for dear life, fearing that her top would turn into a mini-skirt. There’s also the sight of my nerdy friends with their thick glasses headbanging for all their worth.

I rarely go to concerts these days. The violence and the recklessness of some young folks has spoiled the concert scene for me especially in open venues. But this is the Eheads and if there’s one band that I would gladly risk my health just to watch, it will be them.
