Eating Crow – Jo-Wilfried Tsonga Fries Rafael Nadal

January 24, 2008

I couldn’t believe my eyes. I’ve never seen Rafael Nadal so totally dominated by another player. Five hours ago I sincerely believed it would take a meteor hitting the earth for Nadal to be defeated. But he did it, that unseeded upstart Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has done the unthinkable. He downed the indomitable Rafael “The Bull” Nadal in three straight sets. But with the way Tsonga was playing he would have beaten anybody in the world not named Roger Federer (here I go with my pronouncements again). His groundstrokes were just too heavy, his serves like missiles hitting their mark. He made me think of Mark “The Scud” Philippousis during his heydays.

Tsonga played so good that I feel my unscheduled haircut was worth it. Yep, in my frantic search for an establishment with a cable TV (preferrably serving beer), the only one with a decent enough TV was a barbershop. I didn’t even think twice. I sat on the chair and asked for a haircut, despite my last barber visit being only a couple of weeks back– just so I could watch the match.

Haay, the things I do for tennis.

At least you managed to find a barbershop with cable television! I could not find any and most of them are tuned into Chinese channels!

I could not believe it when my brother told me that Rafa lost to Tsonga. Now, I’m hoping that Federer will take him down … Haay!
